Black Light Fixture Buying Guide

How big of a black light fixture are you looking for?

I have seen huge black light fixtures that hold a 24 inch long fluorescent black light bulbs like these. These large fixtures are used by DJ’s and for washing entire rooms with uv light.

There are also a lot of smaller sized black light fixtures that are handheld size like these. These fixtures are a bit more versatile and obviously easier to move around to where you need to focus the light.

Common uses for a smaller black light fixture is to wave it over a carpet to find invisible pet stains. They are also good for quickly identifying counterfeit money. Real money has a strip embedded that glows very brightly under a black light.

Most black light fixtures are fairly inexpensive. You’ll be able to pick up a fixture without breaking the bank.

Editors Tip: You don’t have to buy a lighting fixture that is marketed for black lights. You can slide a fluorescent black light bulb into any fluorescent lighting fixture and it will work just fine. Just remember to be sure that the pins on your fixture match the pin receptacles on the fixture.

Once you have a black light fixture around the house you’ll find all sorts of uses for it. I use mine regularly for finding pet stains. I even used my fixture to find a leak in my air conditioner by injecting it with a bit of phosphor and seeing where they leaked out with my black light.
